Open Enrollment/Intradistrict Transfer Guidelines

Definition: OPEN ENROLLMENT / INTRADISTRICT transfer means a student whose parent/guardian resides within the District’s boundary of enrollment and wants to attend a different school other than his/her assigned “home” school within the district.


Additional Open Enrollment Window:

July 27 - 31, 2020 


Due to the unanticipated challenges that families are currently facing due to COVID-19, the Huntington Beach Union High School District will be offering an additional intradistrict/open enrollment transfer window.  During the July 27-31 window, you will be able to initiate your open enrollment request for the 2020-2021 school year.



  • Parents must provide transportation.
  • Space must be available at the school of desired attendance.
  • A student's home school is established based on their address of residence, not the previous school of enrollment.
  • Once a request is submitted, parents and students agree to commit to the school of desired attendance for one year.
  • There is no need to reapply if you already submitted an Open Enrollment application, and you do not wish to change schools. A new application is only required if you wish to change schools.
  • Special Education student transfer requests need approval from the Executive Director of Special Education.
  • All CIF rules apply. Please contact the Athletic Directory of the school you wish to attend with any questions regarding transfers and eligibility.

Complete and submit an Open Enrollment application during the July 27-31 window. Applications must be submitted to the District Office, located at 5832 Bolsa Avenue, Huntington Beach, CA 92647.  The deadline to submit is Friday, July 31, at 4:00 p.m. Applications can be downloaded from our website or picked up from the District Office at the address listed above.


Applicants must have a student identification number to apply. Students who are not currently enrolled may contact the Guidance Office at their school of residence to pre-enroll.  To determine the school of residence, enter an address here School Finder.
