The interdistrict transfer process applies to families who live outside of the Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) boundary lines but wish to have their child attend a school within HBUHSD. All interdistrict requests must be initiated in the district of residence. An approved interdistrict agreement must be in effect between the district of residence and HBUHSD before a student can attend their desired school within HBUHSD.

INCOMING INTERDISTRICT TRANSFERS (REQUESTS TO ATTEND A HBUHSD SCHOOLS)

Students who submit paperwork will be considered for a transfer based on enrollment criteria and program availability (HBUHSD Administrative Regulation 5116.2). HBUHSD will attempt to accommodate a parent request for a particular school, but the request is not guaranteed.

If you reside outside of the HBUHSD boundaries and wish for your student to be considered for enrollment in one of our six high schools (Edison, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Marina, Ocean View, Westminster), you must first be released from your district of residence by obtaining an approved Interdistrict Attendance Agreement.

Note: The Interdistrict Attendance Agreement must be obtained from your district of residence.

 

DIRECTIONS: 

The process to apply for an interdistrict transfer to HBUHSD for the 2023-2024 school year requires the submission of an online HBUHSD Interdistrict application. The following attachments must be attached to complete your online application. Missing documents will result in an incomplete application and will not be considered.

• An approved Interdistrict Attendance Agreement, or approved confirmation email (must include student's name) from the district of residence;
• Most recent transcript;
• Attendance record;
• Disciplinary record (if a student does not have a disciplinary record, documentation must be submitted);
• Individualized Educational Program (applicable to Special Education students only)*

The Huntington Beach Union High School District is now accepting interdistrict transfer applications for the 2024-2025 school year.

OUTGOING INTERDISTRICT TRANSFERS  (REQUESTS TO ATTEND SCHOOLS OUTSIDE HBUHSD)

For families residing in the HBUHSD boundaries who are requesting to attend schools in another district, please fill out the online Interdistrict Attendance Agreement form to be released from HBUHSD. Please be prepared to provide verification of identity in a supplemental attachment as the student's parent, licensed foster agency, group home representative, or California Superior Court-appointed legal guardian.  

To apply for an outgoing Interdistrict Attendance Agreement release from the Huntington Beach Union High School District, please apply here. Once approved, a completed Interdistrict Attendance Agreement will be sent to the email address provided.
