Welcome to the Athletics information page for the Huntington Beach Union High School District. HBUHSD is proud to have many talented students who participate in extracurricular activities. Our district aligns our athletic programs with the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and abides by their vision and mission statements as follows:

CIF Vision Statement

Athletic competition is an integral part of the high school experience. CIF is uniquely positioned to foster student growth in values and ethics. CIF’s ideal of Pursuing Victory with Honorism provides the opportunity to dramatically influence the actions of the athletic community. CIF strives to strengthen the integrity of students and adults across the state by promoting the concepts of sportsmanship, honesty, and quality academics. These priorities advance the highest principles of character – trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship.

Every student in California has the unique opportunity to participate and experience being a part of a school team or student organization. The CIF and our school communities support our students’ journeys by developing impactful relationships through transformational educators and coaches who provide a healthy environment for growth and development. It is essential to have families and community supporters who display positive behavior which will allow our students to create their own experiences.

Coast High School and HBUHSD CIF Multi-School Agreement

HBUHSD student-athletes who attend traditional school at one of HBUHSD's six comprehensive sites (Edison, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Marina, Ocean View, or Westminster) and decide to enroll at Coast High School are still eligible to compete in CIF sports at their home traditional school site.

Incoming 9th Graders who Want to Attend Coast High School & Compete in CIF Athletics:

Step 1:

Establish a home traditional school by enrolling in one of the six HBUHSD comprehensive school sites: Edison, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Marina, Ocean View, or Westminster.

Step 2:

Contact the traditional school Coach and Athletic Director for tryout dates/times.

Step 3:

Contact Coast High School to schedule a transfer enrollment appointment.

Coast students must comply with all CIF and school district transfer and eligibility requirements at all times. To maintain eligibility, a minimum of 4 academic courses per semester must be completed at Coast High School, and students must maintain an unweighted GPA of 2.0 or higher.

All 9th graders must establish an HBUHSD home traditional school prior to transferring to Coast High School.

Current Coast High School Students who Want to Compete in CIF Athletics:

Step 1:

Contact the traditional school Coach and Athletic Director for tryout dates/times. Coast students must comply with all CIF and school district transfer and eligibility requirements at all times. To maintain eligibility, a minimum of 4 academic courses per semester must be completed at Coast High School, and students must maintain an unweighted GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Step 2:

Upon making any CIF athletics team, please inform Coast High School Guidance so that Coast High School is aware that you will be a student-athlete.
