Two reasons keyboarding skills are important

1. Being more productive with your time.  Hunt-and-peck typing not only waste time, but you lose your train of thought.  Looking at the keyboard and then the screen doesn't allow you to focus your thoughts.
2. It is a relevant and desirable skill.  Many employers are looking for people who can accurately type and are proficient using office applications (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations).  High-level skills like education and software coding also require typing skills.
