Pregnant & Parenting Teen Program

The Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) offers the Pregnant and Parenting Teen Program available free to all students who fit the below requirements.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Student must attend school in the HBUHSD.
  • Student must be expecting a baby and/or already have a child aged one-month to 3 & 1/2 years old.

BENEFITS

  • Students remain in a daily education program leading to a high school diploma.
  • Student's baby receives quality care in a well equipped, safe child-development center.
  • The child development center is conveniently located at Valley Vista High School (9600 Dolphin Ave., Fountain Valley, CA 92708).  
  • The child development center is staff by certified Child Day Care Assistants. 
  • The program allows for students to earn elective credits in a Pregnant / Parenting class.  Topics in this class include labor and delivery, positive parenting in all ages and stages, parental skills for child development, and more.
  • Participating students receive academic support from School Counselors and Guidance Specialists.  
  • A support group including a School Psychologist is available to all participating students.  
  • The child development center has weekly visits from a school nurse.
  • The program creates opportunities for community service.

The program wants its participating students to:

  • Prepare for life after high school
  • Acquire skills to be successful in college and career
  • Prepare for success at work
  • Be a positive role model
  • Develop effective parenting skills
  • Provide a safe and healthy environment for their child
  • Develop good communication and coping skills
