Vision

The vision for the district school libraries is based on the American Library Association and California School Library Associations standard guidelines of ensuring that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information; students are empowered to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.

Mission Statement

The Huntington Beach Union High School District is comprised of six traditional high schools and three alternative high schools. Every site has its own library, with additional goals specific to that site. The collective mission of each traditional Huntington Beach Union High School District School Library is to:

  • instill in students a love of reading and the knowledge that carries with them through their high school years as well as their future endeavors.
  • provide an inviting space where students can work collaboratively or individually on projects, assignments, or self-directed tasks.
  • inspire a campus culture of innovation, literacy, and research.
  • maintain and build an easily accessible collection of resources that equitably supports student needs and self-directed learning.
  • empower students to evaluate and use information effectively, ethically, and without bias to prepare them in their academic, professional, and personal lives.
  • support the campus academically and socially, during and outside of school time, through building partnerships with teachers, staff, students, and the community.

In doing these things, the library will build socially conscious and life-long, self-directed learners, making them future ready and adequately prepared for any and all postsecondary endeavors.
