Life insurance provides protection for your beneficiary in the event of your death. All benefit eligible employees will automatically receive Basic Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance coverage administered by UNUM. The District provides a Basic Life benefit of $50,000 and an Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) benefit of $50,000.
In addition to Basic Life insurance, benefit eligible employees may elect more coverage by enrolling in a Supplemental Group Term Life Insurance program underwritten by UNUM. Employees may elect term life insurance up to the amounts below within 30 days after date of hire.
If you wish to increase your Supplemental Life coverage or your Spouse/Domestic Partner’s Supplemental Life coverage, YOU MAY ONLY DO SO DURING OPEN ENROLLMENT (approximately October of each year.)
HBUHSD provides Long-Term Disability (LTD) Insurance to all benefit eligible employees administered by UNUM. LTD insurance provides income continuation benefits in the event of a disability lasting longer than 150 days.
Under the plan, you will receive 67.00% of your average monthly compensation at the time of disability. The minimum monthly benefit amount is $100 and the maximum is $7,500.
