Adding Dependents - 30 Day Rule

If you have a lifestyle change (marriage, domestic partnership, new baby, adoption, etc.):

  • You have 30 days from the date of the qualifying event to enroll the new dependent on your insurance benefits.
  • If you enroll more than 30 days after the qualifying event, your new dependent will not be added to any of our health and welfare benefits until the next open enrollment period (typically October) becoming effective January 1.
  • You must bring your marriage certificate, certificate of domestic partnership, birth certificate, adoption papers, etc. before any changes can become effective.
