OCSBA honors HBUHSD Board President, Susan Henry

This award is presented once a year by the Orange County School Boards Association (OCSBA) to a deserving trustee who has provided outstanding governing board service and community service to promote and enhance public education within the county.

For over 15 years, President Henry has diligently served on the HBUHSD Board of Trustees, with four of those years as president. Since 2004, she has also been a member of the Orange County School Boards Association Board of Directors where she served as its president in 2008-09. Besides her career with HBUHSD and OCSBA, Henry has also been an active member of the California School Boards Association (CSBA) since 2012 as the elected Director of Region 15 for Orange County. As a part of the CSBA, she was also appointed a member of the associations Linked Learning Task Force (2011-2013) and the Golden Bell Review Committee (2014). Currently, Henry also participates as a member of the CSBA Bylaws Committee. Preceding her roles within the board, Henry was active in the school community with roles such as director of the Orange County Coalition of Public School Foundations, president of the Fountain Valley High School Foundation and an active member in various PTA’s.

This prestigious award was first presented to Marian Bergeson in 1974 to recognize her excellence in education, remarkable boardsmanship and unyielding drive to better communities. A long time public servant, Bergeson dedicated her life to education and community activities and held various roles such as Newport Mesa School Board member, CSBA President, State Senator, Secretary for Child Development and Education and a member of the California Transportation Commission. President Henry’s longtime service and dedication to the realm of public education truly replicates those of the award’s inspiration, Marian Bergeson. The Huntington Beach Union High School District is honored to have Board of Trustees President, Susan Henry’s name added to the long list of esteemed public servants who have preceded her as the recipient of the Marian Bergeson Award.
