HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - The Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) is excited to announce Matt White as the next principal of Edison High School (EHS), pending board approval.

White earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Montana State University then continued his education at Concordia University Irvine, where he obtained two master’s degrees: one in Coaching and Athletic Administration and another in Educational Leadership. Entering his 20th year in high school education with teaching, coaching, and leadership experience, White comes well-equipped to lead the Charger community. He began his career in 2006 as an English teacher and coach at Corona-Norco Unified School District, where he dedicated 10 years. Since 2016, White has been a vital member of HBUHSD, serving as an assistant principal at EHS from 2016-2019, then at Westminster High School from 2019-2024, and returning to Edison for the 2024-25 school year before stepping into his role as principal. Throughout his career, White has emphasized supporting and developing innovative curriculum to meet evolving student needs, a focus that will benefit the students and staff at Edison.

Matt White shared, “I am incredibly honored to accept the role of principal at Edison High School, a place that holds deep meaning for me both professionally and personally. With years of experience serving this community and the Huntington Beach Union High School District as an assistant principal, I’m excited for the opportunity to continue building on the strong foundation of excellence, innovation, and Charger pride. I look forward to partnering with our dedicated staff, supportive families, and outstanding students to ensure Edison remains a place where every student is known, supported, and empowered to meet their dreams and aspirations.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Matt White as the principal of Edison High School and are confident that our students, staff, and community will share that same enthusiasm,” expressed Superintendent Carolee Ogata. “During his time as a Charger, Matt has consistently upheld the values of Edison through his leadership and growth mindset. His commitment to meeting the unique needs of every student and staff member, dedication to curriculum development, and deep pride in the Charger family will be a tremendous asset as he continues to build on the legacy of Edison High School.”

HBUHSD is looking forward to the bright future of EHS under White’s leadership. With his student-centered approach, strong connection to the school community, and proven experience, he is well-positioned to lead Edison into its next chapter of excellence.
