New District Updates

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - The Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. Rocky Murray as the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, Dr. Cammie Nguyen as West Orange County Consortium for Special Education (WOCCSE) Chief SELPA Officer, and three new assistant principals: Dr. Alejandro Cisneros, Brian Clark, and Sandra Long Gallegos. All five positions were approved at last night’s meeting of the Board of Trustees.

Dr. Rocky Murray has spent 27 years in public education, with 11 of those years in HBUHSD. From 2012-2015, Dr. Murray served as the principal at Huntington Beach High School before entering an administrative role as the Director of Secondary Education in the Saddleback Valley Unified School District, which ultimately led him back to HBUHSD in 2017 in his most recent position as the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. Murray’s leadership, dedication, and extensive knowledge have been apparent through his involvement in Career Technical Education, district-wide curriculum development, facilitating parent involvement through a district committee, and his strong beliefs in collaboration and relationship building. In 2023, Dr. Murray was recognized as the Arts Administrator of the Year by the Orange County Music and Arts Administrators, a true testament to his passion for student learning and achievement.

Dr. Cammie Nguyen joins HBUHSD as the Chief SELPA Officer for WOCCSE after spending the past five years as the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education and Student Services in the La Habra City School District. With over 20 years of experience in education with an emphasis on special education leadership, Dr. Nguyen holds a wealth of knowledge in coordination, communication, and collaborative leadership essential to effective consortium work. During her time as an assistant superintendent, Dr. Nguyen has led system-wide supports through special education, behavioral health, and crisis response, and was awarded as the Orange County School Counselor Advocate of the Year in 2023 by the Orange County Department of Education. Her expertise will enable a smooth transition into SELPA leadership, where her passion to ensure all students with disabilities have access to high-quality, inclusive services will be a guiding force.

Dr. Alejandro Cisneros comes to HBUHSD with 12 years of experience in education, five of which were held in leadership positions at site and district levels. In his most recent position as the Coordinator of Family Engagement at Alvord Unified School District, Dr. Cisneros focused on increasing family engagement by working collaboratively across district departments, guiding site administration, and advising committees such as the District English Learner Advisory Committee. His leadership has flourished in his roles not only at the district level but also as an assistant principal and principal, where he has emphasized the importance of a school environment where every voice is heard and valued.

Brian Clark’s 14-year tenure in education began and continues with HBUHSD, where he spent 13 years teaching social studies at Marina High School, while also serving as a Technology Resource Teacher for five of those years. Most recently, Clark stepped into the role of Assistant Principal of Curriculum at Fountain Valley High School as a Teacher on Special Assignment during the 2024-2025 school year. Clark brought his experience in technology to his administrative role to integrate technology into curriculum and instruction while analyzing student achievement data to inform curriculum decisions and identify areas for improvement and growth. With his strategic way of thinking and innovative approach, Clark is well-equipped to continue making an impact as a leader in education.

Sandra Long Gallegos returns to HBUHSD, where she began her educational career as a choir director at Westminster High School. As an activities director for the last four years, first in Roseville Joint Union High School District, then Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District, she has successfully improved engagement and academic success through student-centered initiatives, implemented a district-wide transition in ASB software, and worked collaboratively alongside staff, students, and district personnel. With 12 years dedicated to education, Gallegos transitions into administrative leadership with a commitment to student success and a dedication to fostering positive school culture.

Site placement for assistant principals is to be determined.
