Huntington Beach Union High School District Administrators and Teacher Named 2024 Orange Country Music and Arts Award Recipients

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Two of the Huntington Beach Union High School District’s (HBUHSD) administrators and one teacher were awarded as 2024 Arts Administrators by the Orange County Music and Arts Administrators (OCMAA). The recipients of these awards, Stacy Robison, Special Programs Administrator at Huntington Beach High School (HBHS), Principal Amy Sabol of Westminster High School (WHS), and Christy Hernandez, a dance instructor at Huntington Beach Academy of the Performing Arts (HB APA), are being honored for their instrumental efforts in developing, supporting, and advancing the growth and success of arts programs within their schools and the district.

Dedicated to quality, equity, and access to arts programs for all students, OCMAA derives its initiatives from comprehensive district arts plans, dynamic community collaborations, and inspired, informed leadership.

Stacy Robison serves as an outstanding arts administrator, excelling in advocacy and promotion, resource allocation, and facility and equipment management. Her efforts have significantly increased visibility and enrollment in HB APA over the past six years. Utilizing social media, local newspapers, and website management, Robison has enhanced community engagement and support for arts education, demonstrating a clear vision and adaptability to ensure the program's continued growth and success.

As WHS’s principal, Amy Sabol has demonstrated ongoing support for the arts department. Her proactive approach includes securing funding for equipment, expanding the department with new teachers, and enhancing technological resources to enrich students’ educational experiences. Sabol's exceptional leadership, commitment to innovation, and tireless advocacy have elevated the arts program and enriched the overall school culture, leaving a lasting impact on students and educators alike.

Christy Hernandez is not only an exceptional dance educator but also possesses unique qualities that enable her to teach students with and without disabilities effectively. She tailors lesson plans and teaching methods to meet individual needs, fostering a welcoming environment where all students thrive. Hernandez actively advocates for inclusive practices within the dance community, pursues ongoing professional development opportunities, and engages with the community through her nonprofit organization, Dance 4 Joy Ministries.

APA Artistic Director, Andrea Taylor, exclaimed, “I am absolutely thrilled to see these three exceptional women being honored with prestigious awards in arts education! Their dedication, passion, and commitment to nurturing creativity and shaping the minds of future generations through the arts are truly inspiring."

Robison, Sabol, and Hernandez were recognized on February 27th at the OCMAA Awards Ceremony, held at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts’ Samueli Theater.

The Huntington Beach Union High School District is so grateful for the exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication of Stacy Robison, Amy Sabol, and Christy Hernandez. Not only have they excelled as educators but have also played instrumental roles in nurturing the arts in education within our district and school community.
