HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Ocean View High School (OVHS) Principal Dr. Robert Rasmussen has been named the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Region 17 Secondary Principal of the Year.

ACSA’s Administrators of the Year awards are a part of their annual recognition program that honors administrators and community leaders who are doing extraordinary work to support California’s students. Those who are recognized in various categories demonstrate commitment to education quality and student achievement and meet the diverse needs of students and school communities, among many other exquisite qualities.

This recognition came as a surprise to Dr. Rasmussen during a meeting at the District Office. His family made a grand entrance, bursting through the meeting room doors accompanied by a cheering team of HBUHSD principals, district office staff, and three HBUHSD Board Members. Amidst the excitement, he was presented with a banner to recognize this honor and celebrated by everyone present.

“I am honored and humbled by this recognition,” stated Dr. Rasmussen. “I am also very fortunate to work with such an amazing group of students and staff at OVHS and within HBUHSD. I love serving our students and staff and providing them opportunities to be successful in a loving and supportive environment.”

With this honor, Dr. Rasmussen will be considered alongside other awardees to be recognized at the state level. The winner of the state award will be selected by the state Board of Directors and honored at ACSA’s Leadership Summit in November.

HBUHSD Superintendent Dr. Clint Harwick exclaimed, “We are thrilled to celebrate another one of our principals who is being honored with the ACSA Region 17 Secondary Principal of the Year award. As a former HBUHSD student, teacher, assistant principal, and now accomplished principal, Dr. Rob Rasmussen has made an impact on others throughout the district for decades. It is a well-deserved honor and it is great to see him acknowledged as a leader amongst leaders in the region.”

The Huntington Beach Union High School District is honored to have such an amazing leader as Dr. Rasmussen receive this award. He leads the OVHS Seahawks with compassion and dedication, and this honor from ACSA is a true testament to his leadership style.
