Fountain Valley High School Announces Alyson Smith as New Girls’ Head Soccer Coach

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) is excited to announce Alyson Smith as their next girls’ head soccer coach.


Smith has called FVHS home for the past 17 years, as she has spent her entire teaching career as a Baron in the Physical Education department. She steps into the head coaching position after assisting the FVHS Girls’ Varsity Soccer team in the 2022-2023 school year and previously holding the head coach title from 2006-2011. During her past head coaching tenure at FVHS, Smith was also the assistant coach for the Orange Coast College women’s soccer team and head coach for the Wolfpack Soccer Club from 2005-2010. While Smith was in college, she also assisted the Corona Del Mar High School girls’ Varsity soccer team from 2002-2005.


As a dedicated and valuable player, Smith holds an extensive list of accolades from her playing career. At Chaparral High School, she was a 4-year Varsity soccer player, earning Senior Female Athlete of the Year, First Team All CIF, All Valley Player of the Year, Southwestern League Most Valuable Player, Second Team All CIF, First Team All-League and All Valley for three consecutive years, and Second Team All-League and All Valley as a freshman. During high school, she played for the San Diego Surf club soccer team, who were ranked #1 in the nation. As a key player, she helped lead the team to four Surf Cup Championships, National Finalists, National Champions, Regional Champions for two years, and State Champions for three years.


She went on to the University of California, Irvine (UCI), where she majored in Social Science - Secondary Education and minored in Education while continuing her soccer career. At the collegiate level, she was a four-year starter, leading her team as team captain for two years. She was a scholar athlete and was named First Team All Big West, UCI Nike Holiday Inn Tournament Defensive MVP, University of Montana All-Tournament Team, and Team Most Valuable Player in both 2003 and 2004. After an impressive collegiate career, she decided to further her education at Vanguard University, earning her single-subject teaching credential in Physical Education and Master’s of Arts in Education for Curriculum and Instruction.



FVHS Athletic Director Roger Holmes stated, “Fountain Valley is very excited to announce Alyson Smith as our new girls’ head soccer coach! Alyson brings a wealth of experience to our program that will be positive for our student-athletes both on and off the field. She played at a high level during her playing days and has head coaching experience. Alyson is a great fit for our program, and we look forward to watching the program grow under her leadership.”

The Huntington Beach Union High School District can’t wait to see how Alyson continues to work with the girls’ soccer program at FVHS. Her immense dedication to student-athletes and previous experience will allow the program to thrive.
