Daniel Morris is Announced as the New Principal of Edison High School

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Daniel Morris has been announced as the new principal of Edison High School (EHS). Morris comes to Edison from Huntington Beach High School (HBHS), where he has served as principal for the last eight years.

With his Bachelor’s from California State University, Fullerton, and his Master’s from Alliant University, Morris has been in education for 25 years, with over 15 years as an instrumental member of the Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD). He’s returning to EHS, where he started his career in 2006 as an assistant principal for four years. Throughout his years within HBUHSD, Morris has also been an assistant principal at Huntington Beach Adult School, Coast High School, and Marina High School. While he moved to Irvine Unified School District as the Director of Alternative Education for two years, Morris returned to HBUHSD in 2015 and has played an integral role as the principal of HBHS ever since.

Without fail, Morris has always put his students and staff above all else, emphasizing the importance of fostering a positive and thriving school culture. He has been recognized for his leadership by receiving the 2021 Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Region 17 Secondary Principal of the Year award, the 2022 PTSA Outstanding Administrator Award, and the 2023 Arts Administrator Award from the Orange County Music and Arts Administrators.

"It has been an honor to be an Oiler for the last eight years,” explained Daniel Morris. “I am sad to be leaving HBHS but proud of what our students, staff, and community accomplished to make the Oiler Campus a premier, academic, athletic, and arts institution that is nationally recognized. We did this together; there is a lot to be proud of, and a great team is in place to continue this legacy. Coming full circle by returning to Edison is something I have always had in my thoughts. I look forward to working with the Charger students, staff, and community to build upon what Principal Graves and her team worked so hard to create. Edison has a legacy of excellence and is a pillar in the community. I am anxious to get started and can't be more Proud to be a Charger!"

HBUHSD Deputy Superintendent of Human Resources, Dr. Carolee Ogata, stated, “Daniel Morris could not be a better fit for Edison High School. He has been a standout principal at HBHS over the years, and, under his leadership, students have excelled in academics, athletics, and visual and performing arts. Edison’s traditions, school spirit, and top-notch academic and athletic programs will continue to thrive due to Mr. Morris’s ability to connect with students, support staff, and build community relationships.”

The Huntington Beach Union High School District is excited to see Daniel Morris return to his beginnings with the District at Edison High School. Throughout his years at HBUHSD, we have seen his unwavering commitment to his students, staff, and school community. It is without a doubt that Morris will continue to provide excellent leadership as he is welcomed into the Charger family, and we can’t wait to see how he will build upon the legacy of Edison High School!
