Fountain Valley High School Welcomes Adam Gonzales as the Head Swim Coach

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) welcomes Adam Gonzales to the Baron coaching staff as their new head swim coach.

Joining the FVHS swim program is a homecoming for Gonzales, where he made his mark as a star swimmer for the Barons, Class of 2007. During his high school years, Gonzales was a four-year varsity player on both the swim (four-year MVP) and water polo (three-year MVP) teams, where he boasted five school records in swimming. He also was awarded the Coronet Award, FVHS’s prestigious end-of-the-year student recognition, in 2007 for athletics.

Gonzales continued his athletic career at the Division 1 level at the University of California, Santa Barbara on a swimming scholarship, where he was awarded Academic Student of the Year in 2011 for Swim Coaching and Exercise and Sports Studies. He graduated in 2011 with his Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy with a Minor in Swim and Water Polo Coaching.

At the age of 15, Gonzales began his coaching career, where he assisted the Green Valley Swim Team every summer from 2003-2011. Once he graduated college, Gonzales became the head swim coach at Ocean View High School while working with the Riptide Swim Team from 2011-2015. Gonzales has currently been the head coach for Green Valley for the last eight years and is excited to return to FVHS for this new chapter.

“I couldn't be more excited to come back to a program that meant so much to me as a swimmer,” exclaimed Gonzales. “We have some exceptional talent here, and I see huge potential in the program. FVHS has a historically strong swim team, and I hope to bring the Barons back to our days of swimming glory.”

FVHS Athletic Director Roger Holmes stated, “Fountain Valley is extremely excited to introduce a former Baron as our new head swim coach. Adam Gonzales was a big-time swimmer for us, swam at the Division 1 level at UCSB, and brings a great attitude and work ethic to our pool deck. With the addition of a new pool in the coming months, we couldn’t be more thrilled to have someone with Adam’s experience take over our program!”

The Huntington Beach Union High School District is excited to welcome Adam Gonzales back to the Baron family, and we can’t wait to see him take the helm as FVHS’s new swim coach.
