Fountain Valley High School Athletes Sign National Letters of Intent

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) athletes signed their National Letters of Intent yesterday afternoon, celebrating the next step they will be taking in their collegiate and academic careers.

FVHS boasts nine total athletes (eight in attendance) who will compete at the next level. They were honored at the signing day ceremony by their coaches, Athletic Director Roger Holmes, and Principal Paul Lopez, before officially signing their National Letters of Intent. Friends and families gathered around the gym, joining in on the exciting celebration of the FVHS seniors.

The nine athletes who will begin their collegiate journeys at various colleges around the country are:

  1. Veronica Campbell - Track & Field - Concordia University Irvine
  2. Tim Grack - Baseball - University of California, Irvine
  3. JJ Gray - Men’s Basketball - Oberlin College
  4. Vivian Hennessey - Cheer - University of Colorado
  5. Aubri Le - Track & Field - California State University, San Marcos
  6. TJ McDonnell - Men’s Wrestling - Oregon State University
  7. Nylah Mirshafiei - Women’s Soccer - California State University, Monterey
  8. Alan Ton - Men’s Tennis - West Point Academy (not pictured)
  9. Jonathan Yu - Track & Field - California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo

Among the athletes who have signed to their colleges, Vivian Hennessey is FVHS’s first-ever signee for cheerleading. Competitive cheer has only been recognized as a California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) sport beginning in the 2017-18 school year.

FVHS Cheer Coach Tara Bearden was beaming with excitement for Vivian. She noted, “Since competitive cheer became an officially sanctioned sport 6 years ago, it makes Vivian Hennessey the very first cheer athlete at FV to sign with a college for the sport of cheer. We are all so very proud of her hard work and passion for the sport. Seeing a cheerleader up there getting the respect they deserve made it such an amazing day and proud moment for everyone involved.”

“It’s always one of the best days of the year when you can see our student-athletes realize their dreams,” stated Athletic Director Roger Holmes. “We are very proud of this group and how they represent FVHS.”

The Huntington Beach Union High School District is proud of the athletes moving forward in their athletic and academic endeavors. These student-athletes have showcased hard work and dedication not only in their sport, but in the classroom as well, and we are excited to see what they will accomplish at the next level.
