Marina and Fountain Valley High School Students Place in the Academic WorldQuest Orange County Competition

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Marina High School (MHS) and Fountain Valley High School (FVHS) placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Academic WorldQuest Orange County competition.

Academic WorldQuest is a flagship program of the national network of World Affairs Council. This program offers a fun, fast-paced team competition, testing players’ knowledge of current international politics, geography, global economics, history, and world cultures. During the competition, teams compete in ten rounds composed of ten questions covering ten various thematic categories. Due to the high volume of potential content to be quizzed on, students study for months in preparation for this event.

Julie Chaicharee, FVHS teacher, exclaimed, “The students are awesome and committed to understanding the world around them. They dedicate after school hours to study, prepare but most importantly UNDERSTAND. It's a wonderful opportunity for these students to compete in a fun environment with other students in the county. We're all thankful to the World Affairs Council for the chance to compete.”

”Marina has been competing in this competition for the past nine years and were the Orange County Champions for six years running from 2015 to 2021, the longest winning streak in the history of the competition,” shared Earl Ziemann. “This is a very rigorous contest and the students really worked hard to prepare and did great! I am very proud of our Vikings.”

After a full day of quizzing, scores were calculated to determine which teams answered the most questions correctly. Marina and Fountain Valley were both awarded podium finishes, bringing their 2nd and 3rd place trophies back to their campuses!

The Huntington Beach Union High School District is incredibly impressed with each student’s desire to be educated on global topics and issues that exist today. We have no doubt that these students will move forward to have a great impact on the world, bettering it for future generations!
