Edison welcomes Katrina Handel as new Assistant Principal

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Edison High School (EHS) welcomes Katrina Handel to the Charger family as their new Assistant Principal of Guidance.

Katrina Handel graduated from the Huntington Beach Union High School District (HBUHSD) as a Huntington Beach High School (HBHS) Oiler before continuing her undergraduate studies at California State University, Fullerton. She received her bachelor’s degree in Child and Adolescent Studies in 2003, then went on to obtain her master’s degree in Special Education from Azusa Pacific in 2007.

Spending 14 years as a Special Education teacher and the last three years as an Assistant Principal at Sowers Middle School has not only prepared Katrina for her new position at EHS, but also has allowed her to come to HBUHSD with familiar connections in the Special Education department. As an assistant principal at Sowers, she directly oversaw the Special Education department, Science department, counseling, and collaborated on Yearbook. Her administrative duties also included overseeing supervision, guidance, 504s, and the rollout of Sower’s reading program.

Jennifer Graves, EHS Principal, exclaimed, “We are so happy to have Katrina as part of our Charger family. She will be a great addition especially since she knows so many of our students coming from Sowers.”

“I cannot express how honored I am to join the Edison team!” expressed Katrina Handel. “I am looking forward to meeting and working with new colleagues, guiding and connecting to students (reconnecting to my previous students), and making a lasting impact at EHS! Such an exciting year awaits! Go Chargers!”

HBUHSD is excited to bring Katrina Handel into the district, and her professional experience and background will be a great asset to the Charger’s administration team.
