College application deadlines are approaching, HBUHSD students are prepared

Ocean View High School and Westminster High School recently hosted College Application Day events.
At OVHS, seniors were welcomed into the computer lab with a red carpet and cheers of encouragement from their peers, the cheer team, and OVHS staff. Representatives from local community colleges and Cal State campuses each gave the college-bound seniors a presentation on the wide variety of career opportunities and academic programs that they offer.

Westminster High School hosted a similar event to motivate students as they prepare for their exciting next steps after high school graduation. The Sylvia Mendez Learning Center was open all day for seniors to come in, work on their college applications, and ask the College and Career Specialists any questions that they need answered. WHS food service celebrated the day with a barbeque for students at lunch and encouraged all staff members to wear t-shirts from their alma mater.

HBUHSD encourages our students to plan for their futures as early as their freshman year of high school. Students can make appointments with their assigned Guidance Specialists, their school's College and Career Specialist, and can even lean on their teachers for support. This process can feel arduous and confusing, however, our students have many resources to help them through this transition.

For additional academic support, all HBUHSD students have access to PAPER. Not only does PAPER offer free, one to one, 24/7 tutoring in all subjects, but their tutors also help students with writing college application essays. Whether a student is just getting started, or nearly finished, they are always available.

Visit Paper.co and sign in through your HBUHSD student email account.
