Math Placement

The HBUHSD math placement process for the 2024-2025 school year utilizes multiple measures to ensure that all students are placed in the most appropriate and academically challenging math course.
Please note: only students who are currently enrolled in an Algebra 1 or Geometry course need to take a placement exam.

If you are an 8th grader in Math 8, there is no placement exam. You will be enrolled in Algebra 1 or Algebraic Mindsets based on teacher recommendation and student preference. All 9th graders will also take a diagnostic exam with their math teacher within the first three weeks of school to confirm their placement.

Please view the document(s) attached below to learn more about the HBUHSD math placement process.
