Dr. Rasmussen was officially appointed at the regularly scheduled Board meeting on Tuesday, June 14. His start date was immediately effective on June 15.
“The Board is very pleased with Dr. Rasmussen’s appointment as our Interim Superintendent,” Board of Trustees President, Dr. Duane Dishno shared. “He has a sterling reputation as an educator in our community and we look forward to working with him.”
From 2007 to 2011, Dr. Rasmussen served as the Superintendent of Ocean View School District. With more than 40 years of experience in K-12 education, he has held many crucial positions including Assistant Superintendent for Personnel and Educational Services, elementary and middle school principal, and classroom teacher in various school districts.
Since the time of his retirement in 2011, Dr. Rasmussen has served as Interim Executive Director of City Heights Education Collaborative for San Diego State University, as an Adjunct Professor in the University of La Verne’s Doctoral Program, and as an Interim Superintendent in three California school systems. Presently, he is a consultant to governing boards, superintendents, senior management teams, school districts, and community colleges.
In addition, he is a past recipient of the California Teachers Association’s Gold Award for his support of public education, was recognized as Superintendent of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators - Region IX, and has long been involved with numerous professional organizations.
A native to Huntington Beach, he has been married for more than 40 years, has two children, and three grandchildren.
This appointment comes after Superintendent Dr. Greg Plutko announced in May that he accepted the Superintendent position in Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District effective July 1, 2016. Dr. Plutko has served as the Superintendent of Huntington Beach Union High School District since July 2011.
